His mind was clear

while his body died

until sleep overtook.

For two slow days

I hardly made a sound

not knowing

what to expect

still saying,

I’m not afraid.

His last breath gone

I held his hand

for hours, I said

It is all right

you are well loved

lived a big life and

been so brave.

Just take your time

leaving now.

I am here for you

until your soul

forever

flies

away.
